Due to the loss of some more of the older members the Band had to take one step back in 2003 so they can take 2 steps forward come the 2004 competitive season. This meant taking the difficult decision not to enter BYBA competitions in 2003. They spent most of the year recruiting and building the Band up for the 2005, 2006 and 2007 season.
So what comes next from the Marxmen Group.........? they are now making that history. Little Shop of Horrors, the first show to be repeated, for the year 2005, Eagles for 2006 and "Back to the 60's" for 2007.
Well the "Back to the 60's" show for 2007 is still buzzing in their heads as they stormed to take League position 1 and to win out right the National Finals in Junior Division. This also was now the best ever result that the Band had ever gained. All members, Committee, helpers etc are all to be thanked for their help in preparing the Band for 2007. It really was difficult as the band started the year without a percussion line and some very raw recruits that had not even seen a competition. Just goes to show you that one must take risk to attempt the impossible, because some times it happens.................................... next year......................?
Well 2008 came and went. They almost achieved their aim for the season. 2009 is a season that the Marxmen are taking a year away from BYBA contesting.
Then came 2009. Paul Sanders was still holding it all together and this band both in its present form and in all its previous forms owe him a MASSIVE debt of gratitude. Tina Tregoning came back to help out well the girl just cant seem to stay away! A Season of regrouping, readjusting, carnivals and fun took place.
And now its 2010 and its full steam ahead. Paul is taking a well deserved rest and has stepped back (not far though, we know where he lives!) Adam Tregoning (another one from way back when) has come along and is now acting as Musical Director in Pauls absence.
Adam is currently a member of HM Forces and is in the Band of the Parachute Regiment. A wealth of musical experience is within him and the band are utilising him as much as humanly possible. With Adam also comes along other members of the Band of the Parachute Regiment to help out where they can and also to play with the band when possible. This experience provides the band with one of the best platforms ever from which to return to competing. Tina has written the show for the band and Helen Mellor has got together a fabulous show for the Colour Guard.
Its just like old times only better ... Watch this space for where we go next ... we are aiming for the top!
